How to do I password protect an Excel workbook?
(Applies to Microsoft Excel 2010, 2013 & 2016)
Once an Excel workbook is encrypted with a password anyone that attempts to open it in the future will need to enter the password in order to view or edit the contents.
There are no restrictions on the passwords you use with regards to length, characters or numbers but passwords are case-sensitive.
Passwords should be stored in a secure register to avoid the situation where workbooks cannot be opened because passwords have been forgotten or the original author has exited the organisation.
